Projects

Contents

A project is a focused undertaking made up of several tasks—for example, a product launch, a round of job applications, or a home improvement project. Projects keep together everything that belongs to a common goal.

Where a Project Belongs

Every project belongs to exactly one area. Within that area, you can also put it in a folder to group projects by topic—but a folder is optional.

An area is required, a folder is optional. When you create a project, first choose the right area. You can change the folder at any time later with drag and drop.

Creating a Project

You create projects directly in the project list of an area or folder:

Open area or folder › + New Project (at the end of the list) → type title → ↩︎

The same input line opens with the + Project toolbar button, the P key or ⌃⇧⌘N, and the context menu of an area or folder in the sidebar (New Project—TandemLoop opens the area or folder for this). On iPad, touch and hold the item or use the ⋯ icon at the end of the row.

  1. Type the title and press ↩︎—the project is created, and the line stays open for the next project.
  2. ⎋, or ↩︎ in the empty line, ends the input.
  3. You set all other properties in the Inspector as soon as you click the project.

Properties

You edit all properties in the Inspector on the right. You can rename right in the list or the sidebar: right-click › Rename, or ↩︎ with the project card selected. Double-clicking the project card opens the project (like a folder in the Finder).

A project’s context menu is the same everywhere—sidebar, project list, Multi-View column, Inspector (⋯): Open · New Task · New Milestone · Rename · Mark as Completed · Status ▸ · Tags ▸ · Copy Link · Copy App Link · Copy ID · Show in Finder · Delete. In the sidebar, Properties… is added.

Property Meaning
Title Name of the project (required)
Status Active, Waiting, On Hold, Completed, Dropped, or Someday
Project Type Sequential = tasks should be worked through in order; Parallel = tasks can be done at the same time
Assigned To Human = you do the project; AI = an AI agent takes the lead
Success Criteria How do you know the project is done? Free text.
Intent The why behind the project—helps you and the AI prioritize
Reference Folder Absolute path to an external folder with related material (documents, files)
Tags Assign any number of tags from your tag library
Notes Free Markdown text in the body of the project

Success criteria pay off. If you briefly note how you’ll know the project is finished, you’ll recognize it right away at your next review—without reading all the tasks.

The status Completed sets the completion date automatically. As soon as you set the status to Completed, TandemLoop enters the current timestamp as the completion date. If you change the status back afterward, the field is cleared again.

Moving

Drag a project in the sidebar into another folder or directly onto another area. TandemLoop moves the entire project, including its milestones and tasks.

Deleting

Project (sidebar, project list, or column) › Right-click › Delete

When the project card is selected in the project list, ⌫ or ⌘⌫ also deletes it—always after asking. Inside an open project, however, ⌫ only affects the selected task or milestone, never the whole project.

Deleting affects the whole project. All milestones and tasks within the project are deleted as well. On the Mac, the deleted files go to the Finder’s Trash and can be restored from there; on iPad and iPhone, deleting is permanent. TandemLoop asks for confirmation before deleting.

Next

In a project, you can create tasks directly or organize them into milestones. Reorganizing with Drag and Drop explains exactly how reorganizing with drag and drop works.
