A view is a saved, named selection with its own filter that shows you a specific subset of your tasks—no matter which area or project they’re in.
Views and the Sidebar—The Difference
The sidebar shows you the structure of your work: areas, folders, projects, milestones. There you navigate through the tree and see what belongs to a particular project or area.
A view thinks differently. It asks a question—for example, “What’s due today?” or “Which tasks are waiting for a reply?”—and collects all matching tasks from the entire system, wherever they are. A view crosses project boundaries.

Project 1 → Result:
Project 2 • Task from Project 1 (Area A)
Area B • Task from Project 3 (Area B)
Project 3 • Task from the Inbox

The sidebar shows structure; the view shows a filtered subset.
What a View Answers
Views are useful whenever you ask the same question again and again:
- What’s due today or overdue?
- What have I planned for this week?
- Which tasks are with the AI?
- What’s active and not deferred?
You define the logic for the answer once and then open the view with a single click.
Where Views Live
You find views in the Views tab of the sidebar; on iPhone, in the Views tab. You can group views in view folders to keep things organized.

Views don’t change any data. They only read your tasks and show a selection—you can edit tasks in a view just like anywhere else in the app.
Creating a View explains how to create a new view. You’ll find the available layouts in View Types (Layouts). Understanding Filter Rules describes the filter options.
