The Proposal System

Discussing with the AI

Contents

Every proposal card has a built-in chat, the Conversation. You can use it to talk to the AI—ask questions, provide context, or give feedback—without having to make a final decision right away. Your messages are saved as text in the proposal; however, they’re read and answered only while your external AI tool is running.

The conversation is asynchronous—an AI process must be running. The input field belongs to TandemLoop; the AI behind it doesn’t. A reply is created only while your AI tool is active and reading the data folder. If it has stopped, your comment stays saved and is handled during the next run. If you keep the AI running in the background, you get correspondingly prompt replies—see Connecting an AI Tool.

The Conversation

In the expanded card, below the rationale, you find the Conversation. It shows the exchange so far as a chat:

  • The AI’s messages appear on the left with the label AI and the sender “AI Agent.”
  • Your messages appear on the right with the sender “You.”

At the bottom is the input field Reply to the AI agent…—only for open proposals, that is, with the status Pending or Revision Requested. To send the message, press ↩︎ or click the arrow icon next to it.

The AI reads along—as soon as it runs. When you leave a message in the conversation, your AI tool notices it the next time it accesses the data folder and can respond—for example, by revising the proposal or adding to its rationale. The conversation is the primary way to give the AI feedback.

When the Discussion Is Useful

  • You don’t fully understand the proposal and want to ask.
  • A detail is wrong, but you don’t want to reject the whole proposal yet.
  • You want to give the AI additional context so it can work out an improved proposal.
  • You want to record why you made a particular decision.

The Difference from the Revise Action

A sent message doesn’t change the status. The AI sees your message and can reply, but the proposal keeps its current status until you actively use one of the buttons in the action bar.

If you want the AI to actively revise the proposal, write your feedback in the input field and then click Revise instead of the arrow. Only this action signals to the AI that something needs to be done. More on this in the chapter Approve · Reject · Revise.

Closed proposals. For proposals with the status Executed, Rejected, or Superseded, there’s no input field anymore. You can still read the conversation so far.
