Areas

Contents

Areas are the top level in TandemLoop—they stand for big areas of life or work such as “Work,” “Personal,” or “Sports & Health.” Everything else—folders, projects, standalone tasks—lives inside an area.

What Is an Area?

An area brings together what belongs together by topic. It structures projects and folders and can also contain standalone tasks. The sidebar shows your areas in a list you can sort freely.

A project always belongs to exactly one area. When you move a project, its area changes accordingly. For more, see the chapter Projects.

Creating an Area

You create new areas with the Area button at the bottom of the sidebar (Projects tab). On iPhone, tap + in the Projects tab.

Sidebar › Footer › Area › Enter name › ↩︎

During setup, TandemLoop suggests a selection of areas (“Which Areas Do You Want to Create?”) that you can keep or deselect:

Suggestion Slug
Personal privat
Business business
Work arbeit
Sports & Health sport-gesundheit
Home & Living leben-wohnen
Friends & Family freunde-familie
Fun & Vacation spass-urlaub

The suggestions are only recommendations—you can create as many areas of your own as you like.

Properties of an Area

Open the properties dialog from an area’s context menu.

Sidebar › Right-click area › Properties…

On iPad, you reach the same menu with the ⋯ button at the end of the row; on iPhone, by touching and holding.

Property Meaning
Name Display name of the area.
Color Optional accent color for the icon in the sidebar.
Icon Optional Lucide icon; appears to the left of the name.
Show standalone tasks Shows the Standalone Tasks entry in the sidebar even when the area currently has no open standalone tasks.

To apply the changes, click the checkmark at the top right (iPhone: Save). You can also delete the area at the bottom of the dialog.

Renaming an Area

Right-click the area › Rename—the name becomes editable right in the sidebar; ↩︎ confirms, ⎋ cancels. Alternatively, change the name in the Properties… dialog.

Changing the Order

You adjust the order of areas in the sidebar with drag and drop: Grab an area and drag it to the position you want.

Deleting an Area

Sidebar › Right-click area › Delete

Caution—deleting affects the entire area. When you delete an area, everything in it—folders, projects, milestones, tasks, and standalone tasks—is deleted as well. On the Mac, the deleted files go to the Finder’s Trash and can be restored from there; on iPad and iPhone, deleting is permanent. You’re asked to confirm before the deletion starts.

Standalone Tasks in an Area

Besides projects and folders, an area can also contain standalone tasks—tasks that aren’t assigned to any project. As soon as there are open standalone tasks, the Standalone Tasks entry appears below the area; with the Show standalone tasks switch, it stays visible even without open standalone tasks.

You create standalone tasks from the area’s context menu:
