The View System

View Types (Layouts)

Contents

The layout determines how a view’s results are displayed. You choose it in the view editor under Layout—for views with the content type Tasks. Project and milestone views always appear as a list.

Overview of Layouts

Layout Best for
List The default layout. Shows tasks as a list you can group and sort, with optional additional fields—the most flexible choice for everyday use.
Table Several fields as columns side by side, values editable right in the cell, bulk actions for selected rows.
Board Kanban columns by status, assignment, or delegation, optionally with swimlanes and WIP limits.
Agenda Splits tasks into sections by due date: Overdue, Today, Tomorrow, This Week, Later, No Date. Good for daily or weekly planning.
Calendar Shows tasks in a monthly grid by due date.
Multi-View Shows several projects, milestones, or views side by side in columns—optionally as a carousel that shows only some of the columns at a time.
Dashboard Arranges projects, milestones, or views in a grid of rows and columns; tiles can span several cells.

Notes on Individual Layouts

List is the starting point for almost all views. It fully supports grouping, sorting, sections, and manual drag-and-drop order.

Board doesn’t support sections or the advanced filter; the columns are based on the Board By field (Status, Assigned To, or Delegation). Dragging a card into another column changes the corresponding value of the task.

Agenda and Calendar arrange tasks by due date; the filters work as in the list. If you drag a task into another section or onto another day, its due date changes.

Multi-View and Dashboard load each column or tile independently—for each column or tile, you set which project, milestone, or other view appears there. On iPhone, the columns are stacked vertically.

Change the layout anytime. You can change the layout of an existing view in the editor. Filters and sorting are kept as long as the new layout uses them—Board, Multi-View, and Dashboard have no sections.

Display Options explains how to set the options of each layout (for example, board columns or Multi-View columns).
